Battlefield 1943 Pacific – The first of many?

Recently in different postings and announcements from the Dice camp, what we have known as battlefield 1943 is now being referred to as Battlefield 1943: Pacific. This along with the fact that all of the release maps are of the Pacific leads me to believe that Battlefield 1943 will become a battlefield series in itself.

There is the possibility for a larger version such as Battlefield 1943: Europe, or smaller versions for the UK, Central Europe etc. They of course could be released as downloadble content in the from of map packs. Because when it comes down to it they will likely be using the same game engine, so why spend more time than is necessary on development.

In reality these potential map packs would only really need to include the maps themselves along with other models for the personnel, their weapons and the environment. It is also a great way to keep the series going until such a title as Battlefield 3 is released, and the small and relatively cheap maps packs or expansions should sit well with gamers wallets.
