Battlefield 1943 Expectations are High

With the release of Battlefield 1943 expected this coming summer, interest along with peoples’ expectations of the game are dramatically increasing. Many people grew up playing Battlefield 1942, and are expecting an equally enjoyable experience with 1943.

The problem is that Dice seems to have lost focus, the more recent title in the Battlefield series were nothing like BF 1942, and whats more the games have become arguably less and less popular…

Perhaps this is why Dice decided to go with what was popular, that being a World War 2 first person shooter (FPS). However it’s not that simple, times have changed. So it appears Dice keeping in mind the success of 1942, decided to design another in the series that would work in the current gaming environment.

The market for military related games has increased and so to have the companies producing the games, along with the consoles that play them. Dice then has looked at this situation and appears to have chosen the middle ground. Using the success of the full Battlefield games and making them smaller, lighter and more focused so it could be run as an “arcade style game”.

Thus they hope to draw in the old crowd of gamers familiar with Battlefield along with new and more casual gamers looking for some FPS action. It all sounds so perfect for a game title, but the reality is that not everyone can be pleased, and Battlefield 1943 may not be all it’s cracked up to be.

In saying that, one side does not necessarily have to miss out. Battlefield 1943 may have only been planned as a fix to keep players happy while a new fully featured game is developed – and it being available arcade style (and downloadable) on multiple systems just makes it even better. Remember Dice staff are unable to comment on the possible development of “Battlefield 3″.

So as we wait for the release date to draw closer, more and more people will have their own idea of how the game should play. It’s just a matter of accepting the final solution even if we don’t agree with it.

Personally I have high hopes for Battlefield 1943, it will be an arcade version of the classic Battlefield 1942 (and not a full game in terms of what we are used to). However there is always the hope of Battlefield 3 for PC. :)
